Katipo Spider illustration

Here is another illustration, a Katipo Spider, in the ongoing series of illustrations I am creating for Ferdy Christant over at Jungle Dragon. The Katipo Spider originated in New Zealand. It is part of the family of Black Widow spiders and has a bite that is poisonous, but is rarely fatal to humans. Also, only the females bite humans, apparently the males don’t have long enough teeth to do so. And these spiders are really tiny, the abdomen is about the size of a pea. The body is most often black in color, so I took some liberties with that and made mine more red, which seemed a more interesting color to me.
